Have to go to boy #1's consultation day tomorrow (new term for parents evening held in the day) - haven't been inside a secondary school for nearly five years (since I left teaching) and feeling a bit jittery. Either going to come across as a dim wit (will havething 1 and ting 2 with me) or will try to be all 'teachery' in an attempt to not fit in with any stereotype they have of me (not worried about the boy, he seems to be doing well). Could someone please give me a slap?

Why would they have a stereotype of you?

If boy #1 has had to talk about his family to his form tutor they will have (in terms of siblings - as an ex-secondary teacher I know what the majority of them are like, talk in the staff room of putting contraceptives in the drinking water, etc!)
You've got the upper hand, a conscientious Mother with knowledge of how the school system works.

You'll be fine and certainly not a dimwit.
I think you put too much emphasis on having 5 kids. 5 kids is not loads. I think it's in your head more than theirs.

I knew what your answer would be when I asked the question.

Probably ummmm - really got to work on that. I take it you're first in line to give me a slap?
Ummmmm's right and she's oirish, 5 kids is feck all ;o)
Sherr, head held high - you know you are a good Mum and an intelligent lady.
Hi Elvis xx

You'll be fine. Even when my son was a complete and utter git at school they were all still lovely to me.
And they are more likely to have preconceived ideas about you based on his behaviour. They can tell (usually) what type of parents a child has.
I remember when my son went to nursery some 40 years ago. They said 'don't believe what he tells you happens here and we won't believe what he tells us what happens at home'
lol micmak....
Micmaks comment reminds me of a friends son who would come home from school and get the usual questions. What did you do today, what did you have for lunch, etc?

His answer to the lunch enquiry was always 'carrots'.
'tis true umm. My son came out with "My daddy says mummy has big tits. The embarrassment of it. Mrs MM would not go to the nursery again.
When in infants school I wrote a story about my dad being Queen of the Fairies. He didn't attend many parents evenings......
lol...kids are so funny.
My friend told me a story about a child who told her that he went down stairs for a drink and his mummy and her pal Jim were "sunbathing naked infront of the fire"

LOL CRACKING cover up id say!!!! X
