I put together a website of Old Times songs with sound that should play automatically:
http://www.skeef.freeserve.co.uk/oldtimes/ I find it works with IE7 but for some reason sound does not come through with Google Chrome. Can someone help with this please? I haven't yet tried other browsers but it would be interesting to know if others work. Thanks.

So glad Wendilla thank you. What browser were you using?
No sound on Firefox 10.0
No sound on Chrome (Thank God).
There are few things on the web more annoying than sites that play sounds automatically.
all quiet on Firefox 10
oh, sorry, didn't see WyeDyed had already said so
I get them okay with IE9............

At least I know it's not just me :-)
I notice that you've used a midi file.
Midi files are not audio files, they are sets of instructions for midi devices.
If the person visiting your site doesn't have a midi player, or doesn't have a device configured to play midi in their browser, then it won't work. Even if it works, there's no guarantee that it will sound the way you intended it to. That will depend on the midi device, what banks are available, and how they are configured.

If you really must have something that plays over the page, you should use an audio file.

Thanks rojash, one learns a lot from AnswerBank. The intention of the site was to provide words and music for a sing-along. The introductory page does indicate Windows Media Player. Perhaps I'll try uploading the music files separately with a link it on each page like 'Linden Lea'
http://www.skeef.freeserve.co.uk/lindenlea/ I used old song sheets and Noteworthy Composer to make the MIDI files. Must find out more about audio files.
Here's one site that explains how to convert Midi to WAV / MP3
http://midconverter.c...ert-midi-to-mp3.shtml
There are several others if you search but this one explains it well.

Perhaps I should add that Linden Lea is not part of the Old Time Songs file under discussion.

Thank you WyeDyed. I'll do a bit of research on the link you have given, with special attention to the size of files - bytes, megabytes etc. Have other things to attend to at the moment so will sign 'off line' until tomorrow. Bye for now everyone.
