Am spending a fun Saturday night doing my preparation questionnaire for a pre-surgery immunology appointment on Monday and finding it hard going as a lot of stuff which came up in my pre-op I'd forgotton to mention as often long ago and things I avoid now without even thinking. The nurse asked about certain things and it was like "oh yeah!".

So thought I'd ask on here and see what kind of things people are allergic or sensitive to.

My main ones are horse hair (really bad), septrin antibiotic, some cat hair and the inside of my mouth goes funny sometimes if eating things like apples, tomatoes, kiwi, cherries, strawberries and nuts.

Used to get really wheezy when having some orange cordials but fine now, similarly I couldn't tolerate lactose and gluten for a while but fine with it now provided I don't overdo it.

Found out a few years ago that I'm allergic to penicillin.
Never have been before but about 3 yrs ago was given some and had an anaphalectic (sorry I don't know how it's spelt) shock.
Have to wear a warning bracelet now.
Dust mites and small rodents. Nothing very exciting haha :)
The sun unfortunatly brings me out in horrible blisters, an antibiotic called Streptomycin, Ibuprofen and a few years ago a rather frightening experience after eating dried pineapple! I come out in a vicious rash if i get dog saliva on me and i sneeze and wheeze if i stroke cats. I too couldn't tolerate gluten for a while but seem to be ok now so long as i choose the less processed types of bread.
Bees...

Bit of a dangerous one.
Pain and poverty
My mouth becomes very stingy when I eat kiwi and pineapple but I think thats more to do with the acidity.
Animal fur, especially rodents. We used to have pet rats but they had to go after I was hospitalised with my asthma whenever I spent any time near them :(

Ooh bees is dangerous :( Lyall, yours sound nasty too!

Had my immunology appointment this morning and they were so nice. Have two arms of pricks where they did some allergy testing and came out bad with some trees (alder was the worst one one), grass, apples, horses, cats, some nuts but, thank goodness, not latex! I had to do a hidden latex test (sit and wear a latex and one non-latex glove for a while) and had some bloods done. They seem to be doing a proper job considering the main reason I was there was for the latex allergy.

I think the mouth thing I have with other fruits is like you said Tiggs, something to do with the acid.

The nurse said they think I have something called oral allergy syndrome. They did my peak flow which they said should be higher and they are going to look at the blood tests and gave me a prescription for an inhaler they said to use twice a day and see if I should carry an epi pen especially as some of them involve breathing. I didn't think any of the allergies were that bad (save horse hair) so wouldn't have thought so but we'll see.

I'm just happy I have no latex allergy so hopefully they can sort my op now :)
