Growing Thyme

Hi I'd like to have thyme in my garden, I have tried it outside with parsley and sage in a pot, they grew but the thyme died, tried it again on its own in a pot, still no luck, tried in various places in the kitchen still no joy. I live on the coast of north east Scotland, could it be too cold for it? Any tips?

well drained soil - used to grow it next to a path above a wall and it loved that - partly shady but got some light.....also try lemon thyme as that is so delicious in salad dressings etc.....

This is the info I have about growing thyme - never had a problem growing it myself.
thyme is one of those herbs which need a poor quality subsoil mixed with grit (sharp sand ) with good drainage and full sunlight. No feed required. Only water in the summer. In winter let them become thoroughly bone dry. Cover (or bring inside) in winter to prevent the roots getting too wet & cold.
Thyme mustn’t be shaded by objects or other plants (even itself) otherwise it will go woody. Keep cutting back even if produces more than you use to ensure new tender growth.
