My wife has just been suspended from work and because of the nature of the job it needs to be investigated . Now as nothing like this has happened to us before we are finding the whole thing very stressful.
Now she been told that the meeting to discuss her suspension could be up to two weeks . She has also been told not to speak to anyone from work which makes it an even more lonely experience.
Anyone out there know how we are feeling.

I used to be a senior union rep and was involved in many cases like this.

gives some good info.

Being suspended isn't always brought into play because someone has committed a wrongful act or given as punishment. Where other employees are involved, companies will want to make their own investigations that could intrude on the working life of the accused. Suspension is then initiated so that both parties can reflect/prepare their case.

I would say you look to the positives that you have the time to prepare YOUR case. If your wife has done nothing wrong, this should certainly give her and you the strength to fight it. Be strong for her and ensure she fights for what she believes in.
BigRooster, my darling ratter15 was suspended from work because a female staff member wanted to get back at him for doing something that was his duty to do. He was her Senior and it was his responsability to a particular problem to their manager. She then claimed he had made a serious error that could have put clients in danger, which was totally untrue! and he was suspended for a week while the investigation was ongoing. They very quickly found that she had lied and he was reinstated. He was never worried as he knew her claims were false and in the end it was a week off with full pay for him. So it all worked out for the best. I hope it does for your wife also. Best wishes.
I certainly do know how you're feeling. Although I've never been in her position myself, I have had to suspend people myself. And believe me, that's not a decision taken lightly.

I'm assuming from the tone of your question that she's been accused of something that is either dishonest or immoral. So, for example, she's not being suspended as a punishment for bad timekeeping or that sort of thing.

If I'm right, her employer doesn't really have an option other than to suspend her while it's being investigated. I hope they're still paying her at the moment. I really recommend that she speak to a good local employment law specialist. If she's in a union or a professional body, they should be able to help. If not, many household insurances these days cover going to law. Has to be worth a check.

Good luck to you both.

I have no idea why I called you "Mark"...LoL
So if you can't speak to anyone at work how do you gather evidence to clear your name if what happened was at work.
I'm sure that's were there getting there's evidence against you from.

Still laughing about Mark.
If she had messed up she would put her hand up and be happy to face the consequences but when you no you have done nothing wrong but your getting investigated it hurts and if you can't speak to no one from how the hell do you get evidence to clear your name !
She will still be able to give names of colleagues to provide witness statements etc if appropriate. She should also ensure someone goes to any meetings with her either a union rep or friend just to support and take notes. She should not agree to any action apart from complete exoneration without going away and considering it also she should consider a counterclaim if there are grounds eg if she has been accused of something by another member of staff. hopefully she was provided with copies of all the relevant policies and procedure documents and she could take this time to become familiar with them. Be careful what goes on here ensure nothing can be identified to a workplace or individual.

Wish you both well

because of the nature of her work I really can't say what she does but she been doing her job for many years with no complaints.
We think that one of her colleges felt on this particular day she wasn't doing her job correctly which could put someone at harm . After years of training and the nature of the job you have to adapt the training to do your job as each day can throw up a different challenge to us it seems this person saw something and because its different to how they would do the task felt it needed reporting.
We feel now it's just in the hands of people who just go by what's writen in the hand book and not the real world
