Historically many thousands of Catholics were buried in C of E graveyards simply because it was the only graveyard serving the local community. The Roman Catholic Church was suppressed for hundreds of years in this country, so there were relatively few RC churches and/or graveyards.

The town where I now live didn't even have its own graveyard for most of its existence (despite having a large C of E church), with bodies being taken several miles away to the graveyard alongside the main parish church (irrespective of the faith, or lack of it, of the deceased). We now have a burial ground which is officially linked to the C of E church but which is actually used by all denominations.

same as Buenchico here, my father was Catholic, but is buried in a C of E churchyard, the only one locally!.....have not got a problem!......
Exact opposite here, I am a Catholic, my husband was not - the day I arranged his funeral - there was only one double plot left, in the Catholic section. He would have smiled and is no problem.
You learn something every day. I always thought graveyards were for everyone regardless of their religion. I shall end up as ashes buried beside my husband and I am an atheist. A non-religious send off though. And a wake after down the pub.
My ashes are going to be thrown in the sea so potentially bits of me will end up in different places all over the world. I've always liked travelling to far flung shores. ;o)

Thank you all - I wondered because son in law's grandma has died, her funeral is miles away in a Catholic church and she's being buried in a local C of E church. I thought it all very strange.
