I am writing a letter of resignation for my job at a shop; I only work Saturdays and don't need a reference from the job; also the manager already knows I'm leaving. How vital is it I include the managers last name on the letter; I only know his first? TIA

Thanks methyl; I won't need a reference from them but have put the following; "This is my formal notification that I am resigning from (Shops Name); 17th December 2011 will be my last day of employment. I have enjoyed my time at the store and wish you luck for future success."

Agree with Methyl. It might just be a Saturday job but 20 years down the line that Sat job could be more important than you think at the moment.

I haven't had any training there so wouldn't be able to mention that; have printed it now so not going to add a thank you either (would do but our printer's not working so had to drive to the other side of town to print it off!) Thanks for the advice anyway!
ditto above advice ... you never know when you will need a character ref in future!

and good luck!

Thanks all; I can't say I've gained an awful lot of experience from them that I didn't have to get the job in the first place and as it's extremely unlikely that I will need a reference from them at any time I think I'm happy with the letter I've got!
