You could try going into a local art shop and ask if they can put you in touch with any artists - or do you have an art college in Wakefield? I'm sure art students would love a commission (and wouldn't be as expensive as an established artist).
I mean this seriously; you have a vision, why not paint it yourself?
Somebody here could possibly help.

Try an email. marked for the attention of the Head of Art & Design, to Wakefield college:

He/she may well know of someone suitable.

It's worth remembering that you might be looking for someone with proficiency in Photoshop, rather than someone who works with more traditional media. For example, this looks like it's been produced in Photoshop:

thanks for the ideas people :)

i was thinking of walking into some kinda shop but the shops ive seen around wakefield tend to be the usual boring landscape trains... and stuff.

id love to paint it myself or photoshop it but i dont know anything about photoshop and im not very good at painting - ive seen alot of concept art and a great example is from the new ps3 game drakes fortune 3 - beautiful scenes of abandonded ruined houses and i love ruined / abandonded buildings - which is why id love the idea of my home town in ruins

i think contacting wakefield college is a very good idea though! surley it would benifit the studant cuz it would go towards their final portfollio

but seeing the I am Legend concept art again photoshop might not be a bad idea but i can always try going down that road with the college

so thanks for the input guys :) much appreciated!
I commissioned a painting a few years ago and I did it through the local art club. They will recommend someone for your particular genre. Go to one of their exhibitions which they will hold locally, probably before Christmas, and have a look. I paid about £100 - £120 for mine, 8 years ago.

thanks ladybirder thats a good idea too - although in all honsty i saw the stuff the local art / photography club were showing when they had a random day out selling and i wasnt very impressed - dont get me wrong they had some good pictures but i found them bland and lacking a lot of imagination...

in other words the same old countryside scenes, trains, clouds, rolling hills... generic stuff... and they will have selected the best to put on show... so i didnt think of that cuz i doubt theyd have the imagination for something im looking for!

...of course im probably just been judgemental though... but the people i saw there put looked very boring and most likley retired...
doesn't matter if they're retired; all that matters if you like their work. Or the work of one of them, since that's all you need. If not, don't hire them.

Have you tried googling artist+your postcode or something similar?
There's an art shop in Barnsley which has watercolours of the local area and some of the Wakefield area too. They also have a stall on the top floor of the Alhambra Centre.
