Can I strike?

All my colleagues are taking part in the strike on 30 November - they are all in Unison. I am in a different union but can I strike too? I am not bothered about losing one days pay

So if you don't cross a picket line what is your excuse for not working?

Have had an email from my union which bascially says the same too
I doubt we will have a picket line but I could NEVER cross one

If you work for local government if you don't attend work on the 30th you are assumed to be on strike and will be docked one days pay for breach of contract (the day you don't go to work). There is no need to tell anyone in advance whether or not you will be on strike that day or whether you belong to any of the unions, provided you accept the loss of the pay for that day. No other action will be taken against those joining the strike action or declining to cross picket lines. You should have received an email from the Chief Exec or HR about it all. If you don't work for local government, then I don't know i'm afraid!

I have no sympathy with strikers at all, whatever their cause, especially teachers and Headteachers - what an example to set, stamp your feet, throw all your toys out of the pram to get your own way!
Yeah right - and we'd all still be forelock tugging serfs and vassals working 365 days a year for buttons.
We have had details about it today (MoD). If you are in the participating unions and you strike you will lose a day's pay but no further action will be taken against you. If however you are in a non-participating union (or none at all) and you strike in sympathy then you will be marked as AWOL and incur the subsequent disciplinary action.
Wow Prudie that seems harsh - I work for a Council and anyone off is assumed to be on strike and pay docked. No more flexi or annual leave can be booked for that date but that's about it.
