Gallstones Update (gone infected)

After previous gallbladder updates after a horrible attack I thought might be food poisoning as the pain, vomiting and such was so bad I was admitted to the emergency surgery unit at the hospital yesterday as my gallbladder has gone infected.

Bit more settled on antibiotics but still hurts like hell but looks like I'll be getting it removed sooner than I thought.

Just hoping they can do it laproscopically (sp?) so there's less recovery time.

Thanks to everyone for the advice up to now. Hopefully will get it sorted soon.

Wishing you all the best, Jenna. In the unlikely event that removal of your gallbladder laparoscopically is hindered for any reason and you need to undergo an open cholecystectomy, you still have every chance of making a full recovery. X

Thanks all :) Either way I just want the thing out now but the easier and shorter the recovery the better. My ward buddy has the same thing though has suffered for longer and is hopefully having hers out Tuesday now as she's been bumped off the list for days now (we were both in Sunday night) so interested to hear how she's doing.

Seems it might have been causing my gastro problems for a while now so one of the doctors said (the lady who scanned me said she couldn't believe they hadn't scanned my gallbladder before now) especially with the bile acid malabsoprtion.

Main surgical lists seem to be booked up until March from what I heard so not sure if they can get me in any sooner as doctor (and me) hoped, will have to see - on my surgeon's desk apparently.

I'm a bit worried it might go again in the meantime though not much I can do about that. Really don't want to go through that again!

Need to speak to someone about my meds as noone could tell me anything useful while I was in hospital all week and I gave up in the end - so frustrating when both my consultants are there and despite my asking the doctor (who didn't seem to know what either of the drugs even were) didn't seem to think it would be useful until after 5pm yesterday just before I was discharged!

Not sure what to do about the immunosuppressants and bile malabsorption meds. I'm really not happy about taking the sulfasalazine if it might increase the chance of me getting this again/worse though I don't want my arthritis to go mad again so not sure what to do, just need someone who seems like they know what they're talking about to explain it to me and my options so I can make a more informed decision.

I couldn't even get a straight answer about the bloods screening, whether my bloods in hospital covered what I need to go back on or not (missed my last blood screening with being in hospital). Going to try to speak to my GP/rhumatology nurse Monday and see what they suggest then think about the malabsoprtion meds. I've read they can cause gallstones so definitely don't want to be on them if they might make matters worse but don't want to not if I should still be on them as the malabsorprtion will come back.
