We have seen smoking banned from pubs, calls for the ban on cheap supermarket booze, and campaigns started to educate us into what type of food to eat.

Do you agree that there should now also be a curb on gambling, especially in today's present financial climate?

And while at it, why not a ban on all these TV adverts that encourage some of the less wealthy, to go into debt for all those luxury household items.

Incidentally have you noticed that they and the Bingo adverts are primary aimed at the female of the species?

I am SO with maidup.

What happened to the free society that we were fighting for during the cold war?

We were so worried about an authoritarian state controlling its citizens, and now we are becoming more and more controlled, told what we can and can't do with our own money, and our own bodies.

Grrrrrr !!!
I've got a Wife like that,joggerjayne.!
I agree with Craft. A gambler will gamble regardless.
want a bet on whether there will be more regulation?
^^ See, told you. ;o)
(actually, it's one sin I do not have.....I only bet on the Grand National though I admit to a flutter on the points spread on the New Zealand France game in the Rugby World Cup final (£5)).
Has anyone else noticed how many bookies are close to ATM's?
Same as the pubs, all within staggering distance.

If you like a flutter, then fine, but I think the 'gamble-aware' is a load of whoo-ey. The staff change frequently and cannot monitor each and every person who places a bet.

As JJ says, what have we ended up with? An authoritarian bunch of millionaires IMO
Its so easy to bet online that there's nothing to gain by getting rid of the bookies on the high street anyway. it would just kill off another high street activity for no good reason.
Yes, and I think betting online is more dangerous.

You don't have to make an effort to go out.

I gamble quite a lot (sorry) in betting shops and casinos, but I never bet online. I treat gambling as a social activity, not a private one.
