So reads an article on the Telegraph front page and "that some of them are calling for a holday"

This could imply that they are paid. Should the Job Centre be looking at potential fraud being commited.

Who is paying them?

And if someone asks what am I doing about it rather than pontificating here - well, through this medium I would willingly step up to the plate to chair some serious thinking about the Future of UK Society" - more realistically, I am challenging folk to at least think about how we can implement social reponsibility over this through my old B-School etc

Just to be clear, I do not see this as being "Conservative, Labour or Liberal" or necessary a religious thing either, though I do believe that the demos have also shown the frailty of the CofE in all of this (and several other social issues) and the lack of leadership by Williams. I do hope that they appoint more of a "firm revolutionary" such as Tom Wright, ex B of Durham and recently Prof of Divinity at St Andrews.....but they don't have the balls.
You're bang on, Dt - There are always people who want to smash the existing setup before thinking what to do afterwards.

They should take lessons from history - French, Russian and American revolutions did not produce a fair society. People rise to the top through fair or unfair means - look at Abramovitch!

I've never met a protester who had a convincing plan for a workable non-capitalist society. Let's buy them tickets to Cuba? <]:-))
