A notice before pressing submit saying, 'please ensure you have read the question properly and understood what the poster means before responding'

I know it should go without saying but its seems some need reminding.

It is very tedious and exasperating to ask a question and try to be throuough and clear about what you mean and what you want, to have to keep reiterating and pointing things out and explaining to each new responder - things that are clarified in the OP - because people have clearly just scan-read it, taken it out of context and jumped in with a knee-jerk reaction, based on one sentence or point, or simply to tell a little story that is vaguely related to the general subject matter...
Or to automatically gainsay what you have said - it is not possible or necessary to include every nuance and variation of a topic, so there is no need for people to jump and point them ALL out every single time...
it should be a given that each question refers to the individual point raised and does not require the shoe-horning in of every possible permutation or eventuality...
it is also not possible to continually acknowledge that you are maybe generalising and know that not everyone is the same in every sentence either...

so just a note reminding people to stick to the point raised in the question and to be sure they understand it...?

euphemia, perhaps so
Question Author
euphemia, i am trying to explain but its too late, people have made their mind up what i meant
As far as i can see joko, some of your answers to this thread are doing exactly what you are accusing other people of doing ie flying off the handle, getting defensive, not reading what other people have written and taking it on board. You seem to have made YOUR mind up about what other people are saying. In the same way other people might not fully comprehend your posts, i think you fail to fully comprehend some answers - but that's ok because we are all different. Anyway, i think you and most people in this thread (including me) will just have to agree to disagree :)
Question Author
Bednobs, there hasn't really been much for me to take on board has there?
Most posts have just been people accusing me of something that isn't the case... So I how can I take them on board when no matter many times I try to explain what I meant people still just have a go...
All this nonsense about this being because I don't like being wrong is ridiculous... That would imply I secretly know I'm wrong but don't want to admit it rather than disagreeing with you because quite simply I don't agree! ... And as for this thread, how can I possibly be wrong in this thread when I wrote it so therefore I know full well what I meant...?

Only a few people actually responded to the actual question posted, the rest just sought to have a go at me for suggesting it because they jumped on the bvandwagon and decided I was having a rant because someone disagreed with me somewhere else... Its ridiculous and yet again proves the point ... People don't read the questions properly an jump to conclusions and once they do no amount of discussion and clarification will change their first impression.

And I am not disagreeing with people here because I think my idea is great an evryones wrong for not agreeing... I am arguing because of all the abuse and the fact that so many have totally failed to grasp why I made the suggestion....that's exactly what I meant by exasperating.

If you don't like the idea, that's fine, I've made loads and lots like them, lots don't... So what? like I said, just a thought as to whether it might stop a bit of exactly what happened here on this thread...
Question Author
But yes we must agree to disagree because its clear this thread is dead
Question Author
And before anyone jumps in, i meant how can I be wrong In knowing what I meant when writing the post... I know precisely why I posted because I wrote it. Not because I am trying to say I cannot be wrong about things...
I think the written medium is the hardest to get your point across, no accent or inflexion, nor can you see facial expressions - it is so easy to misunderstand. Having said all that things on here always digress and wander because that is the evolution of conversation , am sure no harm is meant.
Joko

Up to a point I agree with you. There are many questions all over this site that are answered as if they had been posted in CB.

thats very true mamalyne, ... and kind of the point i was thinking of in giving a small reminder ...we get reminders and warnings about other pretty obvious stuff such as see a doctor or lawyer, and stuff to stop trouble, like dont abuse, dont swear, etc or advice like dont multiple post, post in correct topic, what suggs is really for, dont chat in other sections etc etc, so thought maybe this could also help smooth runnings... clearly not...
Are you a "school marm" joko?
Question Author
and another one...
I was trying to be practical but I think on a mixed site , rather than a specialised one it may be difficult.

Hi joko, a most entertaining read it has to be said (thread). It is a shame that some don't take your post's seriously.
