Why stroke?
Masterstroke - 'as' (for instance) + t(h)e + (mothe)r (in) M(adam) + 'stroke' (butterfly)
as = for instance
te = t(h)e disheartened
r = mothers end
enclosed within M stroke (Madam Butterfly)
