As the title suggests I am asking you all when you had your first alcoholic drink. I have heard that it is fully legal to give a child alcohol at home by the age of 5, but clearly not in a public house. Is this correct and can anyone explain why the novelty wears off when you get older. I do not wish to drink booze any more as find water and soft drinks more thirst quenching.

Can anyone here explain this odd phemonenon and thanks very much for your kind and ever helpful replies?

Policewoman then.
Sorry, should it be police officer now?
taxi driver?
bodyguard to the stars?
farm hand?
About 9 I belonged to a gang which had an underground den where we passed the odd cigarette round and whatever booze we could get hold of.

Don't quite get the bit about the novelty wearing off as it is an adventure every time we try a new bottle of wine with dinner.

My kids are TT and neither have ever smoked. It must be a judgement on us!

If you've seen it on QI, JB, a 5-year old can drink alcohol in a pub beer garden, but not in the bar itself - unless they've changed it.

My Dad and me used to go First Footing and I used to get given a Snowball (Advocaat & Lemonade). I would have been around 6 or 7.
A and E nurse... hisch have i mished it?
bought my first "halfalager" in Bradford at 15 (wouldn't get away with that today, I bet).

Wine was permitted in the household at 10 on - after all we had restaurants in the family. I have no issue in teaching my wee ones "in moderation" - the youngest does not like it, the elder one is a lush, though she likes her good wines, and has never wanted them diluted a la mode francaise.

wow, gissa caution then!
When I was a child about 8, my parents started allowing me a small glass of wine mixed with water whenever we were out for a meal or had something to celebrate. We lived on the continent and it was normal there. But I was not allowed a "drink" until I was 15 and we had a huge New Years Eve party. I have only ever been totally drunk twice in my life. 1st time was after this party, as I drank far more than my parents had allowed. The second time was many years later when, having told my husband that I had been diagnosed with bone cancer, he left me and my three young children. Within 30 minutes I downed 3/4 of a large bottle of Vodka and nearly a whole bottle of wine and boy was I ill!!! My ratter and I have been together 6 1/2 years now and he has still never seen me tipsy or drunk! I do like alcohol, but I rarely have a drink. I don't like it when people drink too much, so I just don't. I like knowing how much fun I had the night before, not having to ask someone else, lol!
When you rub talken powder on your baby you are rubbing alcohol over them as they use it to absorb the moisture into the powder.
I don't know. I was brought up in a pub so I was probably quite young. I remember tasting my grandads whiskey and American.

I didn't drink, even though I was allowed to.
I was somewhere in the region of 10, my mum gave me a sip of lager, it tasted foul. Glad she did though because I have never been a big drinker.
