hi,
i love tuna steak in sunflower oil ( john west) though it is getting really expensive for me to buy, tuna steak in brine is a lot cheaper and i can buy this from poundstretcher and poundland etc.

i was wondering should i buy the tuna steaks / pieces in brine then buy a bottle of extra virgin olive oil then drain the brine from the tuna and then cover the tuna in olive oil ? i think it just tastes rough and dry in the brine, i like it with oil and can take it straight from the can this way. i need to start eating loads of tuna as i am training now and i need to eat healthy .

what do you think.? THANKS

BTW any good tuna recipes, either salads or tuna for samwhiches etc. THANKS
golden .. I do this regularly, you can control then how much oil is added! Not a problem whatsoever!
can't see why that wouldn't work - I detest anything in brine as it seems to make things taste really watery. My favourite toasted sarnie is tuna and sultana - I know, I know, it sounds revolting but I love it!
No reason why that should not work. I've considered doing it myself.....(the olive oil-not the eating loads for training :-) )

have just tried it with extra vigin olive oil, to be honest it doesnt taste that nice as i dont like the taste of the extra virgin olive oil.

maybe i should try another oil ? not extra virgin ? or grapeseed ? what do you think. now ive went and bought this extra virgin olive oil which i do not like the taste of i think i will use it for cooking/frying eggs etc , can i ? THANKS
Try olive oil ith garlic. Lovely
Tesco sell it Garlic infused olive oil.
Boil some pasta, when cooked add the tuna chinks (drained) and some ordinary olive oil to taste.

I've heard Extra Virgin is a very strong taste.
golden,
I buy Tescos 'light & mild' olive oil which is very nice! http://www.mysupermar...0olive%20oil&SortBy=3
I really love Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Just love dipping bread in it. Nice on Tuna too. I use the Light Olive Oil for cooking.
Nice supper dish I make very quick and simple. tuna in oil ,tinned sweet corn ,cooked frozen peas, lightly fried chopped onion. Mix all together in large bowl, make white sauce and mix into other ingredients.Season well, and put into dish. Top with breadcrumbs and grated cheese. Then in oven for about half an hour. Serve with plain boiled rice and garlic bread if liked. Just vary quantities for the number of people you are cooking for.
Meant to say, maybe in a recipe like this, the oil you put on tuna in place of brine wouldnt taste>
