My mum passed away just over a year ago, and I inherited the house that we live in. How do I go about changing the deeds into my name? solicitor fees seem so high. Also the house is not land registered so would I have to land register it? Any ideas of the cost and how to do all of this?

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Could Which? Legal Service help provide an answer here? You might have to sign up but it would be cheap compared with a local solicitor. Or Citizen's Advice Bureaux?
You could try the Citizen's Advice Bureaux for help or Which? Legal Service perhaps.
I believe land registration is now compulsory on change of ownership - so yes you will need to do it. Can't help with costs, sorry

You could try the Land Registry website - I would imagine there's quite a bit of help there.
Im divorcing my husband and want the marital home My solicitor acted for me re registering my name and it cost me £200 shaylah,
shouldnt cost more than £100-£120+ vat, (well thats what it is in Northants) i would advise using a solicitor its the only way of making 100% certain and lets be honest it needs to be.
You can do all of the paperwork yourself but you'll need to take great care to ensure that you follow the correct procedures. (However the Land Registry can offer you basic advice, to ensure that you fill in the correct forms).

Start by reading this:
http://www1.landregis...public_guide_009.html
Then download the relevant forms from here:
http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/
(Click 'Forms/Publications' and then 'Forms')
You can also click the 'Contact Us' link (from the top right of the same page) to find out where to get advice from.
