On our local news there was a feature about the couple who were kidnapped by pirates off Somalia last year, they have now brought out a book about it. The feature said that the book complains that the UK Government didn't do enough to support their family while the parents were held hostage.
I find this hard to comprehend. They were sailing in dangerous waters, I heard they'd been offered an escort which they declined, getting caught was not unpredictable - how can they have the gall to complain, when they put themselves in the situation in the first place?

what support did they want for them?

not sure i understand this, what support, you put yourself in harms way, and though i applaud anyone who wants to make life changes, see a bit of the world before old age takes over, think that they by and large brought this on themselves, and to what end could the FCO give support to their loved ones.

em, thank you - you echo what I am thinking. I don't understand what they are now complaining about.
though its rather off thread i wish could post the youtube vid of how the russian navy handled some somali pirates, some wouldn't like or agree with it, but it was effective.
What age are these siblings ? They are adults as far as I know.
I would agree our navy were inept but that's another story.
Off thread, I know, but wonderful isn't it (not!) that the Somali pirates/kidnappers, having collected so many millions in ransom money from all the various ships they have boarded and held hostage, are now using that money so generously to alleviate the sufferings of their people in these times of drought and famine rather than those poor people having to turn to the west for help and sustenance?
apparently the french navy were pretty aggressive too....
have you got the link, em......
remember this one - the spanish police way of dealing with a terrorist. Wouldn't expect to see that here....

people these days do seem to think the government should protect and provide for them in all situations and for all things - personal responsibility isn't very popular any more for some reason.
