Such annoying creatures arent they? He was just playing in the park, minding his own business when all of a sudden he started screaming. I ran over and he had a red swollen mark behind his ear poor little love.

I hope he has now recovered Tigwig. A very nasty experience.

He has thank you. In fact he was quite tough and only cried for about a minute! The nappy cream I had in my bag worked really well and an hour later there was barely a mark.
That's good. I remember one of mine being stung on the lip when she was a baby. The swelling was quite impressive and we had to dash to the local cottage hospital where she was given an injection.
He's braver than me. I was stung yesterday and my hand is still swollen and aches like mad. Mind you, not sure whether that is as a result of the wasp sting or the mild burn I acquired on my hand putting a fire out in the kitchen. Bad day yesterday!!!!!
I think all wasp nests should be destroyed. I don't know it they do any good in nature, they seem bad tempered horrible creatures, who yesterday killed an elderly woman. If the continental ones ever get a grip over here then we will be in trouble as they are much larger and sting something terrible. I was at Dulwich park in London last week, and at the swing park there was a 2 year lad old near me, ( I was watching my 2 year old Grandaughter) when a wasp landed on the little lads lip, time to panic. what do you do?? grab Him and try to get the wasp out of His mouth or what? what would His parent/nanny think?? luckily, decision not needed, it flew off and He was not in the slightest bit concerned. But, what a dillema it could have been. August is wasp month, so hopefully they will be gone soon. Hope your lad is well again,

Annie.
Look on the positive side - at least he's not allergic to wasp stings and now you know so won't have to panic if one goes near him in the future. Hope he's OK now ! - I stepped on one last week and it got the bottom of my foot - ouch - put vinegar on it straight away it takes the sting right out.
All wasps nests destroyed? That's a bit OTT isn't it. There are far worse things in life than wasps.

And one of the only reasons kids become hysterical when a wasp comes close is because the parents do.
wasps seem to be getting grumpy already this year, it usually happens in about a months time, a friend stopped to chat to me today, and a wasp landed on her dog's nose and stung him!.........he's a lovely golden Lab, and didn't do anything to annoy the wasp!.......
Got to agree with that. My mum used to be a flapper whenever a wasp or bee came near .... then one day I got stung and though 'oh is that it!!' - not freaked out since.

Obviously different if you know you have a bad allergic reaction to them though.
I was always terrified of them because I had never been stung so didn't know if I was allergic but when working on the allotment (several years ago) one gave me a sting and so I know now I am not allergic. I think they get evicted from their nest at this time of the year and are not allowed back in so they go around stinging. No wonder they are mad. Incidentally is it one stung me or one stang me? Couldn't make up my mind.
Boy #1 first got stung by a dead wasp that feel put the curtains in his bedroom, in his panic he grabbed the curtains and pulled the whole lot down.

My husband is petrified of wasps and panics when one appears and does a mad dance thing to get rid of it, the kids think it is hilarious and it hasn't made them scared of wasps (they just come and get one of use to get rid of them).
not much different to the rioters per chance, starbuckone.......the evictions that is.
When I was a kid we had a German Shepherd that got stung on the nose. After that he declared war on wasps - if one appeared, we called the dog, he would catch it, bite it in half and spit it out. Never missed. Brilliant!
