Did anyone see the news from New Orleans about 3 officers beating up a 64 year man? They absolutely beat the s**t out of him and he was in a pool of blood because they say he was drunk, armed and refusing to obey police officers' instructions. What they didn't know was they were being filmed by a news crew. The man wasn't drunk, wasn't armed and is partially deaf. You may not be surprised to know that the man was coloured and the police were white. That is one fact that is for certain.

10CS the use of the word "coloured" is considered to be offensive by many of those whom you would call "coloured." and that is what is important. Think about it, you're coloured, I am coloured, because white is a colour but when you say "coloured" what you mean is "non-white."

I don't know if anybody here actually comes from a black or non-white background but my wife is as black and she is not offended by the term "coloured" My kids are mixed-race and have no issue whatsoever with the term.

However the song Ba Ba Black Sheep and the term Black Board are banned???? And this school costs me 4 grand a term!!!!!!! Weird.

Just to point out that the link to the video doesn't seem to work anymore. Am fascinated to know why its been taken off.

of course they don't have license to do what (they supposedly) did!

honestly though, the cops in America are not easy-going. They will punch up ANYONE who they feel is not giving them proper "respect". Also, they act on stereotypes, probably even more so than do "regular" people. I would imagine the authorities are giving them greater range in how they deal with people because of the situation in New Orleans.

Eversince September 11, when the emergency response teams received such accolades from the Media and Govt. the police have gotten bigger heads about their role in society, as if they were soldiers or something. Scary!

I never even said 10CS was racist, to begin with (and later comments were not uncalled for, but were almost certainly wrong, I concede that).  I just said that the term was racist.  I'm actually not wound up, as I said before, it's pitiful that a man can't cope with a woman disagreeing with him, just cos she's the same age (roughly) as his daughter.

JB as much as we have disagreed about most stuff political over the last 4 or 5 months I just want you to know I find you quite cute. I know you will have to loose the tie-dye tee shirt and floppy hat before we date but that can be overcome.

Actually, I'm quite a smart dresser honey! :-)  Certainly haven't owned anything tie-dyed since 1996, when I got rid of the lightweights and cherry doc martens at the same time! *cringes*  I certianly make an effort for dates! :-)

PS - Police brutality is absolutely wrong, and if proven the officers concerned should be punished according to the US justice system.  I put "if proven" in italics for obvious reasons.  The racial element to the crime perhaps makes it worse, but in any event, I don't tihnk we would say that a white-on-white, or black-on-black crime was any LESS serious, given the alleged level of allegedly unprovoked violence.

Leaving out the, Ahem, personal stuff,  I did note that although the police in the video were obviously overviolent that the victim himself was not exactly co-operating with the police and 'coming quitely' ,

Problem is it seems as though the truth as usual in these cases very rarely sees the light of day, especially in the US these days.

True qapmoc... perhaps that is actually more worrying than the case itself.  Afterall, what you alluded to may well be a problem that runs deeper...

I never said I was blameless, but it certainly appears, to both me, and others, that your main problem with me is that I am a young woman who has opinions, and sticks up for herself. It has been speculated that this is something you're not used to dealing with. Well, I have only one thing to say on that... "start getting used to it".

I note that as usual you are going to ignore my contribution to the thread and continue just to pick petty personal fights. So much for the high road 10CS.

Didn't say anything about "High ground". The only person on this site who I have a problem with, who has a problem with me, is YOU. We'll never agree, especially whilst you continue with the mud flinging. Yes, I rise to it. But I feel I have every right to defend myself. I have absolutely no faith that you even read my opinions anymore. You just see the name and automatically disagree, so it appears. The fact that you are continuing to ignore my contribution to your thread and perpetuate this stupid arguement says that quite clearly to me.

Perhaps if I posted under another name you'd give me the time of day, and credit me with the ability to actually have an intelligent conversation.

I wonder, if a middle aged man on an internet forum treated your intelligent daughter in her 20s the way you treat me, would you be pleased?! Wouldn't you support her in her self defence?! I suspect you would! And I suspect you'd turn a blind eye if she attacked a bit too, when provoked.

haha most amusing!

Curious - how would it effect people's opinions if this man is since proven to be a repeat sex offender? Or an escaped murderer?

I do not believe that the police should ever leave a man bleeding like that in the street in controlled circumstances, however we do not know much beyond a very short video clip. A lesson here for all.
Well, you would have been pleased if your behaviour HAD pushed me to do what it so nearly did, back in August. And I will never believe otherwise.
