In 1530 King Henry VIII fell out with the Pope and declared himself Supreme Head of the Church of England and seperated the Church from Rome.

So if you want to be pedantic (not that anyone ever is on Answer bank). Queen Elizabeth I, founded the present C of E because Queen Mary had reverted the country back to RC undoing all the reforms introduced by Henry VIII & Edward VI.
