Road Resurfacing work

Work started today on the resurfacing of the road outside my flat, it is very noisy.

The local authority sent out letters saying that it would take a week - it is just a short road.

After taking the tarmac off the road is the rest of the work any quieter or am I going to have a headache all week? I didn't want to ask the guys in case they thought I was complaining.

The plus side is that my lady cat has been watching the guys intently all morning. ;-)

Roadwork involves machinery which is never quiet. If the old surface was removed with a "planer" then that may well be the noisiest part over, although trucks, asphalt spreaders, rollers, etc. are all heavy machines with large engines that make considerable noise.
At least you're getting resurfaced, they keep patching up potholes in my road, the surface is a about half an inch thick! Desparately needs a re-covering. No respite Im afraid, the whole lot makes a racket!

Thanks guys - the noise is still there. I knew the work was to start but did not fully appreciate the level of noise that we would have to endure.

R1 - it is a small road in the city centre that has buses running along it. Our council is usually okay about maintaining roads - they also spend time and effort with the hanging baskets and other floral displays. It is an okay place to live in - safe but boring.

I will go and find my earplugs.

;-)
I recall years ago when some council workers thought they'd catch up on overtime payments by starting to dig up our street with their pneumatic drills at 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning!! The noise lasted for about four minutes, before furious residents decended on them!!
Sorry to say that there is nothing you can do about it, but only if they are doing this work after 11pm at night then that would be illegal. You would look silly compaining, and they are only doing their job. You will just have to grin and bear it, I am afraid.

By the way if any of you want your street fixed then report it online at the link below:

Hope this helps.
Time to pack a case wolf and treat yourself to a night away somewhere peaceful.
A nice man spray painted all sorts of triangles and 30mm raise and overlay in white paint a couple of months ago. I'm still waiting for the noise as well as the smell of tar. Our stretch of the road has been crying out for years to get sorted.
We all benefit from re-surfaced roads and just have to take a share of the inconvenience.
