I'm glad you asked.

The physiological purpose of armpit hair is yet to be explained, but it has been suggested that it serves to collect pheromones and to lessen the effects of friction on the skin during locomotion.

I always wondered that. After all any hair you shave off or wax off can't really be needed can it?

LOL at Octavious (I'm still giggling as I write this!)

I'm not exactly sure but I think it's got something to do with attracting a partner.  I vaguely remember being told this anyway.

I always thought that we have hair in certain places to protect them as they are more vunerable.
Doesn't it help evaporate excess sweat?
So Boots can make a fortune, selling you girls  Ladyshave (:)
I've just looked this question up, and surprise, surprise, Octavious is right, well done.

You doubted me?

Dakota - pheremones as mentioned in my answer, are a chemical that is secreted (by humans/animals/insects) and influences the behavior or development of others of the same species, often functioning as an attractant of the opposite sex.  So you are right too, if that's what attracts you.
