There was a programme on TV the other day (hosted by Stephen K Amos). Somebody on there pointed out that when you look at your own, you're looking down at it so the perspective makes it look smaller than it really is. When you look at someone else's (and yes, we all have) you're looking more side on so it appears longer than yours. Hence one root of the male fear of not 'measuring up' to other men.
