What is the point in him being banned from the touchline if he's got a phonelink to the assistant coaches ?

While an assistant coach may well convey Fergies instruction to the MUFC players, he's probably less likely to convey Fergie's abuse directly to the match officials!
;-)

Incidentally, your post made me check up on the Laws of the Game. When I was refereeing (many years ago) ALL touchline coaching was against the rules. (Even though it happened all of the time, whether on the parks or in professional football). I was surprised to read that the current rule is "only one person at a time is authorised to convey tactical instructions from the technical area".

However a more pertinent rule might be this one:
"The use of radio communication systems between players and/or technical staff
is not permitted".
That would seem to prohibit the use of mobile phones between Fergie and his assistants.

Fergies the best manager ever to grace the englandshire premier and should be treated with the respect that that deserves
You must be joking steg - he is a foul-mouthed fool and not a good ambassador for your Bonnie Scotland. If he was an ABer he would, no doubt, way strip Doc's record for suspensions.
That arrogant pr*ick deserves all he gets, he has no respect for anyone and he would never grace the same halls as Matt Busby, Jock Stein, Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Bill Nicholson etc
he has won more "manager of the year" awards than any one else, his record speaks for its self. He is also a friend of my mothers and a nicer guy than most could ever wish to be
he may be successful and he may have a decent record, he may be a nice guy in private but he portrays himself as an arrogant aged yob.....not an image I would like out there in the real world.
a Scotsman more arrogant than an english, especially in football, is that actually possible?
why I prefer rugby !
rugby is good, i preferred to play rugby than football when i was a young loon
and I spent six years north of Hadrians wall for my BSc and first Masters.....and played rugby up there.
where did you study/play dt? if you don't mind me asking
St A
used to play Perth at rugby.

There was an infamous incident when Perth were due to come over to play at us. However the call didn't get through in time that the matches were cancelled owing to a freeze. They turned up and none of the teams were around - to be greeted by our groundsman who uttered the immortal words, "Yer nae playin on ma feckin' pitches'

It became our battle-cry.....
They should dock Man U points, see how red he goes then
I agree. If he is banned from the Touchline that should mean that he is banned full stop. Going and sitting in the Stands or sitting elsewhere should not made a differance.
