Hello I am diabetic and I dont take any medication at all I completely manage it by diet and exercise and it was hard at first but I am eating mosly raw natural food. Avoid processed foods as much as you can with all that artificial nonsence putting stress on your body. Follow the "Helicopter Pilot's Diet" found in LivingTree Root #007 here http://www.alienview.net/ALLT1.html (the others make interesting reading too) but No 7 will explain some very important information about diet. Your health is one of your most important posessions look after it. Best wishes

porridge is great it holds the blood glucose levels also apples are long acting and very good Bread can be a problem look at the labels, they have dextrose and glucose and shoot up blood glucose,  I find Alisons wholemeal is best  Rice is also good and beans, but just have what you feel suits and a few biscuits if you want Its much better to keep within the normal 4-7 range and aviod hypo's  especially if travelling I always carry some sweets or sugar cubes, glucose , really a normal diet taken with care avoiding of course very sweet things but if go out for a meal the odd pudding is ok.  all the best.
