How much can a london cabbie expect to earn per year? Where, and whom from, do you buy a taxi? any other information please.

There was a documentary on about five years ago about "The Knowledge" and it was mentioned then that a cabbie can expect to earn 40-50K.

I don't know how true this is, or even if it still applies, but the same programme also mentioned that a new cab costs about 70 grand.
