Look for Files & Settings Transfer Wizard (System Tools) Follow it and select what you want to save.
Save the file(s) to a memory stick.
Import in same way to new PC.
No you cant transfer programs to a new computer, you have to reinstall them again.

For personal files like pictures, music etc easiest to copy them to a memory stick or better still an external hard drive.

Then just plug the memory stick or external hard drive into your new PC and copy them across.
On your old computer DON'T use the existing Files and settings transfer wizard, as you are likely to find that its output is not compatible with the version on your new computer.
Before starting, download the latest first of Easy Transfer from Microsoft:

http://windows.micros...windows-easy-transfer
If XP to XP .. Files & Settings Transfer Widard will be fine.
If XP to 7, I agree .. use the later software.
