I'm sat in the waiting room, waiting to go in for a filling, and in barged 3 of the chavviest (that a word?) women I'd ever seen with a toddler boy in a pram told the receptionist their details and noisily sat down.

Anyway, after glancing up I noticed the toddler boy has plastercasts on both his legs and was wearing the soft velcro sandel type booty things they dole out at the hospital. It brought back memories for me as my eldest daughter had a condition called talipes as a baby (club feet) and i was assuming he had the same condition. Bearing all this in mind, perhaps i was paying them more attention than i normally would folk, however I was utterly gobsmacked and appalled when after taking him out of his pushchair and he toddled to play with something, they yelled "c'mere fat feet" then proceeded to pee themselves laughing at their obviously enormous wit.

I remember being really upset when my eldest daughter was in the casts, and with this in mind perhaps i am super sensitive about it, but would it strike anyone else as horribly cruel to laugh at your child like this? I never did suss which of the 3 women this child belonged to, don't suppose it mattered really as they all thought it really funny, and continued to call him "fat feet" until i was thankfully called in to have my filling done, before i smacked all 3 of them in the mouth.

Would anyone else find it funny to laugh at your own child this way?

After re-reading the replies again, and seeing the newer ones, thanks Tambo, Red and NJ, im reassured that it wasn't me being all mardy over something trivial, im glad others saw it as did and were equally appalled.

Nice also to know that the majority of us, at least in AB Land aren't dragging our children up with scant regard for their emotional wellbeing as well as their physical. Especially when you're out and about and you hear the way some of these so called parents speak to their children, it's heartbreaking.

I was walking home, from work, tonight, and there was this harridan of a woman, with 3 kids alongside her, and one in a pushchair, screaming abuse at someone on the phone- awful for the children to hear and grow up around :-(

It went ok, well, as far as dentist appointments go I guess!

Oh and also that incident, which frankly made my jaw drop, though I shouldn't be surprised, some horrible folk live round here.
well ya did it kidda, good on ya!
I'm offski, have a nice evening
"made my jaw drop"

That'd be it, it was staged by the dentist to get you to open wider.
sorry, getting back to you, Nox - 'Gremlin' may be insulting or harmless according to taste, but 'fat feet' for someone in casts is a bit more pointed. The reason I wouldn't do it in public is that it seems to give other listeners the licence to call him the same. What may be an affectionate name from a family member might amount to a taunt from someone else.
Glad to see you post sh!te like this happening, how parents can take the p!ss out of their own children is discusting

Well done to you for highlighting this

That`s just one of the many reasons I love you x
I wouldn't even say something like that to my child in private. I think its quite sad.

Hiya tiggs, no me neither, horrible innit?

Hey elvis, long time no see and all that, how's you? And I am very lovable ;P
Yes it is horried. I do call him poopy pants though for reasons which are self explanatory! Lol
That has to be one of the grossest things I've ever read. The poor child. Here's hoping that when he's 16 he can call his mum and the other "ladies" what he likes.

He'll remember how he felt when they called him names. It's mental and emotional cruelty.
