Formatting Laptop

Dad's getting a new laptop so I will make a copy of all the files he wants to save but how do I go about formatting it before I take it to the dump? (it's not worth trying to sell on).

If you are taking it to the dump, why not just smash the hard drive with a hammer?

Can I just smash the whole thing up with a hammer? (will they still take that at the dump). I think I could really enjoy that.

Because it's a huge pile of crap that I wouldn't want to burden anyone with. He didn't feel the need to get any anti virus so it's completely cocked up. Even the laptop repair said he couldn't bring himself to try and charge him to fix it. Plus some of the keys appear to have melted.

agree. take the hard drive out, it's only a couple of screws to undo and give it a few good whacks with a hammer (I've found ball pein works well).

charities dont deal in electrical....put it on freecycle.co.uk

The computer recyclers will take it. If they don't then smash it.
