Does anyone else get calls from unknown numbers for debt management? I've been getting them on my mobile the last few months and my parents get these calls on their landline. What I would like to do is stay on the line and then when someone answer tell them remove my number from their database and then **** off. If I were to do this does anyone know if would I get charged for the call as I've heard that this kind of thing does happen?

O well if you do ive been charged as thats precisely what I do on my mobile-not my landline as I have that published.Blooming cheek -I keep my mobile number very private so makes you wonder just how discreet your provider is.

I think your number gets past on from a company that you have contacted or purchased something from to these dodgy companies. I thought they couldn't do that but obviously they do. Its so annoying Dris, I've had 4 calls like this in 4 days.
I used to get these. I just extended the ring time on my phone so the calls would ring off without tripping the voicemail function. Bit annoying for family/friends for a while but the nuisance calls have now stopped.

I've joined the caller preference service for the last couple of years, and I've found it very effective in stopping these sort of calls.
Change your number, and just give it to those you trust.

Can I do that through my provider Box?
When I moved house I told my bank that I didn't have a landline anymore, which is a lie. Since then 90% of nuisance calls have stopped. I wonder where all these people were getting my number from hey.

I've tried that Hopkirk but they usually say that they can only give me a previously used number rather than a new one. If I want a new one I have to pay for it.

You would have thought the bank would be the one facility not to pass on your details wouldn't you.
No, you sign up for it separately, tigs. The Telephone Preference Service is (I think) still free, but the Call Prevention Registry is a separate entity and I pay just under £40 p.a. for it. It has really filtered out nuisance calls on both landline and mobile for me, and if anyone does get through, all I do is ring them up and they can block calls from that number within 28 days. Thanks Box, I'll look into that. I've only been getting them recently and the number comes up as Unknown on my mob or Withheld on my landline. DOn't know if they can do anything about them but I'l try them anyhow.
