William Hague, the foreign secretary, has today called on the authorities and protesters in Egypt to show restraint and avoid violence. He urged the Egyptian authorities to "listen to the concerns" of demonstrators. Hague said:
We deeply regret the loss of life in the Egyptian protests. All parties should show restraint and avoid violence.
It is important that the government listens to the concerns of those demonstrating and respects rights of freedom of assembly and expression.
Openness, transparency and political freedom are important tenets of stability. We urge the government and demonstrators to seek a peaceful way forward.

Ho, ho, ho, what a shame that the poor old Manchester shoppers were inconvenienced by those naughty demonstrators, and even worse, the totally incompetent Manchester Police couldn't massacre said demonstrators to ensure that the same much inconvenienced Manchester shoppers could go about their retail therapy unmolested and undisturbed. It's really not good enough (stamp! stamp!).
Yes, let's do it like the Egyptians, let's have dozens dead and thousands injured in Manchester - at least the good old shoppers won't have to be held up, except having to step over the corpses, and have to find other routes in to the city to spend their hard earned pennies. Ooh, those selfish demonstrators and those useless Police! How dare they prevent everyone else doing what they want to do? Imagine??? Absolutely no thought at all for the retail therapist!
