I have a TV upstairs with built in freeview. For no apparent reason all the channels suddenly have no signal. I have checked all the connections but they are all fine. The tele downstairs is fine and they share the same socket, with a connector so it's not that. Any ideas what it could be?

We keep getting a message saying "no signal", usually only lasts around 10 seconds or so. Think it could be down to the work they are carrying out on a number of the transmitters at the moment due to the digital switch over. I am in the midlands and we are due to lose anolouge later this year so they keep messing with the transmitters trying to fine tune them for digital signals.
Most things in this world are cured by switching of and switching on again.
I am getting that more and more frequently. I thought at first that my Freeview box/DTR, only 2 years old, was going on the blink, but I find that switching the power off and then back on fixes it every time. Only trouble is I do lose recordings. We are not due to go digital till next year, last area in the country.

Switching it on and off again hasn't worked. It hasn't worked since Wednesday night now.

Our nearest transmitter caught fire a few months ago and they have been doing work on it ever since but I don't think it can be that as the tv downstairs is still working perfectly.

Is it possible that the aerial cable could be damaged inside from heat if it has been next to the radiator? There is no external damage to it.
Have you tried bringing the TV downstairs and trying it on the socket downstairs?

At least that will eliminate the TV is at fault.
If they share a socket, maybe the fault is with the cable going from the downstairs socket to the upstairs TV ?

I'd agree with stoofur, try to eliminate that cable and see if the problem goes away.

Failing that it maybe the signal isn't really up to driving 2 TVs, the TV downstairs barely able to cope, the one upstairs not ?
