I am new to this site. Do you thank people who have answered your questions? If so, how?

Many people just add TIA - abbreviation for 'Thanks in advance' - to th end of their original question. If someone has been particularly helpful, or every time if you prefer, do as bednobs suggests above. Best to leave it until you believe ALL the answers are in rather than thanking each individual personally.
Thank you smaclaren for joining AB. Im sure you will enjoy it as much as I do. There are a lot of lovely people on here. Welcome
Go in, give it a go, thank the posters above for their answers :)
Normally wait for a reasonable time for a number of answers to appear, and then add your thanks and any comments at the bottom. I do not like to see my own name there, as it says Question Author, and to me this does not look right. You could always put thanks in advance at the start of your question.

Hope this helps.

Thank you ALL!
Thanks in advance is a cop-out. You can't beat the personal touch. A thank you after a reply will make posters more willing to help in future.
see you went and gone and done it !! welcome to the madhouse :) please stay and have fun in a load of categories
Especially if you mention 'stout' smac ;o)
A personal 'Thank you' is always good, but I've never been put off answering a question or thought the worse of the questioner because it had 'TIA' attached to it. Granted, it is not as effusive as, 'I shall be eternally in your debt for responding to my query', but it DOES contain an expression of gratitude.
I meant to add above, "and that is more than we usually get."
