I looked at both last time I upgraded and I decided on neither in the end - but it really does depend what you want to use it for. I can't be doing with tiny keyboards as I text a lot.
I've got an iPhone and it is very cool in terms of being a gadget but it can be a bit temperamental, no idea about the Blackberry though.
I have a Blackberry for my work and an iPhone for personal. The Blackberry is a great messaging machine in terms of txts n emails. The iPhone is fantastic media machine. Battery lasts longer on Blackberry but I charge both each night regardless. If I had to chose between them then I would opt for the iPhone as a personal preference, purely as it's more fun....games,films, music, messaging etc.

I wouldnt go for either, all you are paying for is a name. There are a lot of mobiles on the market that can do everything they do for half the price. Any of the newer models from HTC, Samsung, Sony Erricson or Nokia running on the latest android operating system with captive touch screen will give you just as many features and at a much better price. To many people feel they have to have an IPhone or Blackberry because they are a status symbol, the problem with that is they are high on petty criminals hit lists!!

Thank you all.. is it true that Blackberry phones can communicate each other free of charge regardless what network you on or whether contract/payg, apparantly using a pin??

A big vote for iPhone here. Can't be without mine and will get another when I next need a phone. This is the first phone I have ever had where I am not all the time deciding what I will upgrade to.

Thanks again all...
toHouseHusband... I might take a look at other phones available too, must admit my last phone was LG cookie(touchscreen) and loved it. I'll ask phone shop to give me few other options to look at... I'm not into the phones for the names, just want something that i can download apps, camera, good calendar, email, texting ... so other might be something better out there for me. As these names were cropping up a lot, thought they might be something to change to.

Mustanglady from what i understand blackberries are a great business phone and was the first to give you email alerts and access and also has something called blackberry messenger which allows you to send messages to other blackberries free of charge, thes have not come with touch screen apart from the latest model which does have a small one. the iphone 4 has great screen resolution and apps but you are locked into the apple world and the iphone does not have/allow flash player which is needed by many websites out there so you may not be able to view some websites is my understanding correct me if I'm wrong folks heard the htc desire hd blows all other phones out of the water which is what I'll be getting as it has a massive screen runs on the latest systems, has flash player and is just a great all rounder according to the reviews I've read. Again I'm not tech minded and have picked up what I've told you by the little research I've done.
The iPhone is pretty, and sexy.

The Blackberry is a more serious piece of kit.

If you want to show your friends the "app of the week" ... get an iPhone.

If you need to communicate ... get a Blackberry.

I ... have ... just a mobile phone.
Joggerjayne how is the blackberry a more serious piece of kit when I thought the iphone4 was a lot more technologically advanced?
Like I said, it depends what you want to do with it. I phone, text, email, odd photo. I don't need all the download stuff, I wouldn't use it - I'm therefore biased in favour of a bog standard phone...
Martin ...

The i4 is very advanced ...

... as long as you don't hold it by the edges and jam out the aerial signal ...

... or put it in your bag and crack the wafer thin screen ...

(both problems for which several friends have had to return theirs to the shop).
I've got the Nokia X6 which is great, but I hear their new N8 is even better.

never had a problem with the aerial signal on my iphone or the screen, read the reviews on amazon for both phones. it depends what your uses are ultimately. try them out if you can. there are a lot of smartphones out there. research before you buy.

I have had a htc and a blackberry, I prefer the iphone

Thanks all... really do appreciate all your comments & reviews. I will also take a look at the Nokia N8, HTC and a few others before making my final choice next month. I'll also have a look on amazon reviews. So many choices !!
