Some airports are now closed for at least 24hours,some flights will probably be cancelled. Will people who cannot get away on holiday be able to claim off there holiday insurance or will there be a get out clause due to adverse weather conditions.

It will all depend on the small print - there is often some sort of payout for delays over a certain number of hours, but weather can be considered an Act of God (IMO) so it's not the airlines' fault. Interested to know what others think about this.
my poor friend was supposed to be flying to the maldives today. Instead she will be coming back here
A friend of mine is stuck in Poland. It`s -10deg there but the ironic thing is, it`s Gatwick where the problem is. There are now no more Easyjet seats until at least Monday.
Can't understand why the airport is closed, we have had nine days of snow and there have been some, ok maybe not all, but some flights taking off each day. They go out and clear the runway between showers, which provides us with entertainment from our office window
I believe that virtually all standard travel insurance policies require you to have turned up at the airport for your flight (or to show that public transport had failed you, or private transport had similarly failed e.g garage report on car breakdown) for an eligible claim.

Since people have been advised not to travel to closed airports – they will not be able to claim off their insurance. Others should be able to confirm this position from their experience during the airport closures due to the Iceland volcano eruptions earlier in the year. Although I believe that some insurers paid out – even though the policy wording allowed them a get out.
Hi all
We was due to fly to Gran Canaria at 9.30am but with the spanish air strike we was told to go home and come back tomorrow, we even got on the plane and sat on it for almost two hours, i am with direct travel insurance and i have looked in their terms and conditions and it states that they will pay out if there is a delay of over 12hrs. We will have been delayed for over 29hrs (although we were told to go home or stay in an hotel until 2pm on sunday). Would direct line say that this is not a delay?. They do not open until 10am to find out and because we are only going for a week we will lose nearly 2 days of our holiday if we decide to go. On the other hand if we cannot claim, we will lose £650 plus £100 for my 2 cats in the cattery. Please help
