nutritional value of mould

is there any?

we eat it in cheese...but in other things it is not right and most peopl would discard the item.

why is some mould ok and others not...why isnt it used in more foods?

coudl it help people in starving countries? -

mould is very easy to grow, so maybe in a more controlled way could it be turned in to a genuine food stuff? could it be flavoured?

i know some bread moulds can cause terrible hallucinations etc...but why not the cheese one?

just curious really

well we eat mushrooms and quorn which are fungi....
and toadstools......not sure if funghi is a mould though? there are thousands of moulds and funghi and like bacteria, some are beneficial and some are toxic. the yeast mould is a prime example of moulds being used to provide a food or drink product ( marmite/bread and cakes/beer and wine etc) -LOL! if yu have ever tried to actually GROW mould it is'nt that easy - its one of those things that comes when you don't want it -i'd tried for years to grow mushrooms with no success - interesting concept though - new source of protein based on moulds....Mmmmm...stilton and port........mmmmm ;-)
