Typos

Why is my spelling broccoli when I type but not when I handwrite? Anybody else have the same problem?

Sorry! Seriously, I don't have that problem, but my other half does. His handwritten stuff is fine, but some of his spelling on typewritten documents is dreadful. I think part of his problem though is that he has never learned to type properly so has to look at the keys rather than at the screen.

You've also got to differentiate between spelling errors and typos. Every now and again I do make typos when one hand works quicker than the other. My usual ones are teh (the), adn (and) and thsi (this).

Actually that does happen to me. I can type accommodation 100 times correctly but every time I write it, I spell it with 1 m. It's not spell check fixing it for me as I usually notice before it has the chance.

For some reason I always type the word 'remember' as 'remeber' but write it correctly...

My handwriting is quite shocking when I take notes/minutes/write shopping lists. My typing tends to be not as bad... Neither is very good though.

It's not strictly true to say I don't have that problem. If I've been on the fermented grape juice, my spelling is AWFUL!

Just talking about typos and not actual spelling mistakes, keep in mind that when you are writing you have to think of the letter then actually physically form it in it's correct location in the word.

Thanks for your replies. I think in my case it`s because I touch type and I do it so fast that my fingers work faster than my brain so as Stewey mentions, I can`t formulate the words first in my mind.

PS Lawyers like us, Barmaid, shouldn't say 'typo' or indeed 'computer error'. We should say that there was a 'lapsus muris' ' a slip of the mouse', by analogy with 'lapsus calami' 'a slip of the pen'. Got to impress the client.Latin is dead useful sometimes. I once used 'ordered in absentia puli [actually I used the Latin for my surname]' as an endorsement for when I got to the Master late and he'd already given his directions (happily favourable) before I got there. LOL Nobody complained about 'ordered in the absence of [me]. :).

You are in good company SJ. I write very quickly but my brain goes a lot faster, the consequence of which is I omit words or even phrases from the page. Fortunately for me, whilst with my previous employer, my boss had the same problem so he thought I too was intelligent :o)

I'm pretty good at speed typing and writing - special training at college.

However, I cannot say 'vinegar'. I always say 'viggegar'.
How weird is that? ;-)

Handwriting = one letter at a time.
Keyboard = rushing, hitting wrong/multiple keys, trying to type in excess of the 'standard' 2 finger method', or maybe you just have sausage-fingers?

Using a pen gives you more control over the order your letters appear on the page.
Half jabbing at a keyboard and half looking at a screen results in typos, we all do it.
