I have been asked to provide a stool sample and have been given a little pot with a plastic scraper type thing. How do I go about providing the stool sample correctly?! I hope someone can help, this is quite mortifying for me!

Just save it all up over a few weeks and take a bin load.

hmmmm.....solved ! The teaspoon in the bathroom, thanx boxtops :)
I'm tempted to say "with difficulty". If you have a garden and if you must use the loo, take in some newspaper, an old stick and a bucket with a paper bag liner. Cover the water with newspaper so the top isn't wet. Produce your stool, scrape up a little and put it in the pot. The rest is put in the bag with the stick carried out and buried - sterilise everything afterward or bury it. You can do the same thing in the shed or garage if you have one, wrapping up the rest of the stool and burying it. If you don't have a garden, the rest can be put in a plastic bag, well wrapped with more newspaper and sealed tightly in another bag. This should avoid smells for the man who empties you rubbish. The eco way is better.
why the garden? Im confused why she has to poo outside and bury it or give it to the binman. I'm off the impression she probably has a fully functional toilet.
juandelacruz, In the garden?? are you on drugs??
Have you done it yet, infomaniac?!
I've had to do this quite a lot. I put a plastic bowl down the loo! Then it obviously catches some as you go. Put a small bit on the spoon and into the tub. Then clean and sterilise the jug.
juandelacruz. i am facinated by your answer, could you explain why use the garden.
Anne, perhaps Juan wants to offend the neighbours?

Juan is looking not to use an indoor toilet, I guess, but for the OP it seems a bit unnecessary - particularly as you then have to wrap it in an unrecyclable plastic bag! Now if you were Dick Strawbridge and only had a compost toilet, I can see the reason for ferretting about with a stick!
Jambo, having not long done a test, I understand people's delicacy about making this sample - it's not something most of us are given to doing very often, and it's not the most savoury of tasks. It's not mortifying, just distasteful.
Funny how this post has attracted so much interest, surely the 1st answer by jaydah would suffice.

it is a serious question! i guess i find the thought of it mortifying as it's the first time i've done this and i am quite scared as having a lot of tests done.

i have some helpful answers, so thanks all!
just a quickie to say that my son-in-law used to be a lab technition at the general hospital & it was one of his tasks to examine & ckeck on samples, I used to say to him '' have you had a good day at work ?'' & he would always reply '' oh I've just been going through the motions''.
LOL @ whiskery, there's always one!!
