My boyfriend ended our relationship this morning. I'm so upset. There wasn't even any real reason. How can people claim to love you and just end it all in 5 minutes.

Milly... be honest, how was the relationship prior to its sudden end?

It was fine until last weekend when he just went cold and seemed uninterested. Yet still telling me he loves me unprompted.
Unprompted declarations of love can be genuine or a sign of guilt. My advice to you is not to contact him at this point in time as you could put pressure on him and drive him even further away. Give him space to think about things and he may well realise in time that he misses you. x

Thanks for the advice everyone. I really hope this feeling doesn't last long.
Milly, sometimes these things just happen. There doesn't have to be a reason or anyone else involved. He may have known for sometime that while he still had feelings for you that things just weren't right for him. Maybe he's tried to hang on and see if it's just been a blip but realised that things aren't going to change and it's not fair to either of you to continue when he doesn't feel the way he should - and wouldn't you rather be with someone who loves you with all their heart and soul and wants to be with you than someone who feels affection for you but stays cause they don't want to hurt you? It hurts now but it is better in the long run, you are worth more than that and you will find it. x
Better it happens now than if you got engaged or married. Hope things work out for you.
It might be a blessing in disguise Milly. You are now available for Mr Right.
Big hugs milly hope he speaks honestly to you x
sorry to hear your down but his loss will be another mans gain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Aw I feel for you babe. I know exactly how you feel my husband turned around to me one day and said he didn't love me anymore and left. I had just had his baby too. We had been married 6 years, together 9 in total. It will be really tough for a while but you will get over it. Coming from someone who has come out the other side. Keep your chin up hun.
Sorry to hear that, milly, I know just how awful it can be. My ex did the same a few years ago. I was absolutely devastated and felt like a complete fool for even thinking he loved me. I too have come out the other side and it taught me a huge lesson. Keep strong hunni, time is a healer x
It's unhelpful perhaps to say this is the human condition, but your heartbreak goes back a few thousand years. It's there in stories, in the old songs that were passed round from mouth to mouth. It's at least half of the Blues.

Loving's like water, you turn it off and on
When I woke up this morning, found my good girl/man had gone

Love is teasing, love is pleasing
Love's a pleasure when first it is new
But as it grows older, love grows colder
And fades away like the morning dew.

And in these songs both men and women complain about the eternal infidelity of the other.

It must terrifying to find yourself in love with another woman when you could have sworn you truly loved someone - and you did. Love is not in the brain, it's not rational. It can strike suddenly.

But it does get better. I know everyone will tell you this, but that doesn't prove it's not true.
Time does heal; that's a universal experience. It leaves scars and you don't forget. Nor should you - that one is now part of you.
