I'm stuck in the bottom right hand corner. 56A: Turned away, say and put out to dry. I have A?V?T?? It looks like "averted". I can see "AVER" but what's the "TED"? 51D: Girl's name entered in festival. If "averted" is roght, it's ?N?D. The only thing I can think of is "ENID" but I have no idea why. Explanations ould really be appreciated. I've finished the rest of it.

You used to "TED" hay - shake out to dry.
ENID would give you "N-tered" in the festival of EID! How twisted can you get!
Or simply N for name, in EID. ..perhaps a simpler way of looking at it!
Averted doesn't fit with A?V?T??
Can you confirm the letters please.
Thanks

many thanks. I've learned two new things today! If only I could remember them.. Apologies to Factor30; It should have been "A?E?T??
Ted is to spread grass out to dry.
Eid is the Welsh singing festival with N (name) inserted
I am stuck on 26a and 27d - can you help please
56a. Ted is to spread grass out to dry
51d. Eid is the Welsh singing festival with N for name inserted
Thought Eid was a Muslim festival and that welsh singing was an eisteddfod?
RocW. To 'ted' is to spread new-mown grass for drying. 'Enid' seems right- 'n' (name) in 'eid'. 'Eid...' or 'Id al-Adha' is the Muslim 'Feast of Sacrifice'.
The girl is ENID. N(name) in EID(arabic holy day).
Agree AVERTED - but why???
