I sometimes help my niece with her Maths homework but she has me stumped today with her Geography. She has been set the task of finding out what ethnic groups live where in the UK and are there any reasons for this? The example she was given was years ago in the East End of London there was a large community of Jewish people and this was mainly because the tailoring trade was there. I don't even know where to start with this one, so any (sensible) help would be appreciated.TIA

South Shields near me have quite a large Arab community because of the Tea Trade and the boats that traded there, the nickname for people living there is Sand Dancers which is not a derogatory term, it is similar to me being a Geordie
I guess, Crap, you could start by breaking the UK into regional areas ....... SE, SW etc.
Maybe pick a large conurbation from an area and Google some cultural history of the place, to eventually get an idea of how it developed. You should eventually come across exactly the kind of thing Bobbi has referred to.
This might be a starting point....
