Hi everyone!
I have just had a new upvc front door fitted and hate the lock! Its a rented house,so it was not up to me what I got.The new lock I think is called a multipoint lock, but has to be locked from the inside so no one can open it from the outside.I do not like the idea of leaving the keys in the lock, but I also don't like the idea of burning to death if there was a fire!
Is it possible that I am just using it wrong,or is it possible to fit a yale type lock, that will open without a key from the inside but still be locked from the outside..I dont remember anyone else having to keep their keys in the door.
Thanks for any help

do you mean that you have to leave the keys in the inside because it is not possible to use the lever to unlock it without using the keys?
leave the keys on hook near the door ? it takes 5 seconds to unlock the door, well it does in our house anyway
Just get your landlord to fit a thumbturn barrel lock. It is the controling factor to your multilock. Remind him/her that rented properties should have a quick means of exit. If he/she still stonewalls you then invite a fire safety officer from the local brigade to your home and I'm pretty sure that they will insist on it.

Think twice about a thumbturn barrel http://tinyurl.com/383ojfe especially if you have a letter box in the new door.
This type of barrel is so easily opened without a key ( easily in under a minute).
Whenever I see one in a customers house I always point it out, and once I demonstrate how I open it from the outside ... they cant get a new barrel quick enough.

Thanks for all your answers, yep jomifl, thats exactly what I mean.I have just nabbed the builder, who said he will try and get another lock, but we will see!
With limited use of my poor little hands, the thought of having to use a key to get out quick is scary,so I just want to have a lock like my last one.
If the builder cannot change/alter the lock,OH will have to try the thumbturn barrel.
Thanks again

Just a quick update-still no joy with the landlord, always tomorrow. The Fire Brigade sent out THREE fire persons(one was a lady so I am now very aware of that man/person thing) who said that they didn't think there was a problem, just to leave the key in the lock at night!
They did however fit new smoke alarms,so I feel a tiny bit safer.
Cheers all
