Library books

I have just seen the WH Smith advert for buy one get one free books, they are expensive so I don't understand why people buy them when we have wonderful libraries around the country, I would be bankrupt if it wasn't for them as I read an awful lot.

People buy them to keep or to give as gifts.

Certain aouthors i am fond of i like to keep the books and re-read. And as sb says, I also buy as gifts.

I use the library a lot but like chelle I tend to buy books by about half a dozen different authors to keep and re-read.

Every xmas I buy my son in laws books. A nice book on history or WW11, architecture. hard back so they can keep 'em. They tell me they look forward to them.
Also the latest Cookery book goes into my son's stocking. My G/daughters now are appreciating books. So Amazon do very well out of me at xmas.

i use the library but when its series of books i liket o buy then as i can read them in one go then. i also have fave authors and i buy all of theirs, i like to keep and re read them

I re-read my books so I buy them. Generally I buy them second hand on ebay, amazon or in second hand shops. I love to have book shelves fully of books.

Tinkie: I am a book freak. I have about 3000 books, yes three thousand and counting. I absolutely love books. Even when I pick up a new book and take it to the counter to pay I am happy. The smell from a new book... wow there's nothing like it. When you settle yourself in your chair or in your bed, coffee one side, biscuits the other, and a brand new book. Fantastic!

Last time I went to the library I picked out 2 books. One of them was only about 4 months old. It was dirty and pages turned. The other book was even worse. I think the previous reader was a nose picker because every few pages there they were. Perhaps he used them as a bookmark!! Who knows?

Needless to say they were both returned to the library without me reading them. I bought them books new. I did report to the librarian the condition of the books but she just shrugged and said, "That's the kind of people we have nowadays." Or something along those lines.

My OH would love it if I used a library, it would save me a fortune and would mean I might actually have some wall space at home but I haven't been in one for years.

I think a book makes a fantastic gift, either given or received and like China Doll I read and re-read the ones I have. I don't think you can beat the look, smell and feel of a new book, it's so exciting and if it was one I really liked I'd hate to have to give it back lol.

Books are tactile, and sexy, and lovely.

You can hold them, and fold them, and dogear them, and they don't complain.

Thank you everyone for answering my little survey, I am actually surprised by the the answers, I go to to a library that is new so I don't get books that are dirty etc., they supply bookmarks and I also like books from certain authors, so I just phone up and they order them in for me, and at approx £20 a go it saves me a lot of money, and I can read them in order, also I can't read a book more than once, once I know the ending, it's the same with films and Karenmac you will never be out of a job with me around. With up to 20 books a week, using my Husband's card as well as my own, I am a happy bunny

I couldn`t be without my library. It`s the best value I get from my council tax. If I bought books I would get them via Amazon Kindle. It`s saves an awful lot of space.
