clemmen is to starve in Dutch and doubtless there is a common origin.

oop t' North - or oop t mill, the is never changed to t' and this probably represents the Danish article te. Wigan would have been within the Danelaw.

Linguisitics is interesting but dont do it fulltime it doestn pay the rent.

oops my contact pointed out that Wigan was not part of the Danelaw which was east of Wigan and that pre 1066 it was part of Cumbria which was a norwegian kingdom.

He suggested scrike for weep/cry

and also theres a wigan word for retch/vomit - cost?

(he speaks Swedish)
