Does anyone else think this annual flag waving event is racist and offensive? Why is it allowed in a diverse society like the UK?

I'm surprised there's not a lot more protests.

Eddie, the black faces are just tokenism. Haven't seen anything on this thread to change my mind.

Time for a change, it needs to be more inclusive.

"eating posh picnics and having a few glasses of something special"

So it's for the white middle classes then?
sp1814 says the music doesn't appeal to black & asian; in that case they wouldn't find flag waving etal, racist or offensive.

For your info - rich, black chocolate voice of Paul Robeson

a black chocolate voice? I wonder what a white chocolate voice sounds like. Swiss, probably.
black chocolate is purer.....
jomifl, I misunderstood your question. Yes, I did introduce religion into the thread. I trust Thomas will rebuke me if he finds this inappropriate. I referred to the performance of Jerusalem at the proms. Jerusalem is a Middle Eastern city; so building it in Britain as Blake requests would inevitably involve Middle Eastern elements ranging from mosques to hummus in the supermarkets. Alternatively, I suppose he could have been envisaging an English Jerusalem with cricket and warm beer, but I can't see it myself. Just my opinion, of course.

Not quite - I wrote that light classical music doesn't have 'widespread appeal amongst black and Asian people'.

That's a simple truism....but it doesn't mean that NO black and Asian Brits listen to and enjoy classical music. It's just that it isn't as popular as blues, pop, r'n'b, rap, grime rock or soul.

If you went to the summer classical concerts at Kenwood House, you would observe the crowd are overwhelmingly white and more often middle class.

It's a just a matter of appeal...
Thomas...not unless eating posh picnics and drinking something special is restricted to white middle class only, wasn't last time I checked.

As sp1814 says, it's a matter of appeal. I'm sure you could point out a lot of gaps in attendance if you looked at the social demographics of attendees generally.

Hi jno... have you ever come across the use of metaphor in the english language, I have been led to believe that it figures prominantly in some religious tracts.

No! The MOBO must remain. There has been plenty of white winners over the years.
What an utterly stupid sh*t-stirring question.
