z plate car?

i have been browsin threw a few cars on ebay and have come across a few z plated ones?? can someone/anyone explain what exactly it is? i have googled it and find it hard to get the answer x

Z was used in Ireland I think.

would this affect insurance? etc the dealer is advertisng it as a zplate car!! but dont really want to ask them about it as they are not genuine ppl and are only interestin in selling lol

thank you. apparently you can have them on our cars in the uk so..... mmmmmmm
Well there you go you need to check where the vehicle was first registered, however I would think that if someone had bought an Irish reg they wouldd probably transfer it any way.
Until the most recent overhaul of the British numbering system, "z" and "i" cars were unique to Northern Ireland registered cars (Southern Ireland too used z and i, prior to their overhaul to the european standard in 1991). The registration SEZ was from a car registered in Belfast, see the following link:

Where is belfast if not the uk?
A lot of coach companies used to put Northern Irish plates on, as it would disguise the age of their vehicles.

I don't see them doing it any more now though, so something must have changed.
