Hot air balloons

My dog is terrified of hot air balloons,this morning like every other time he sees one,frequently in the summer(they take off in the field opposite my house)he hid on the landing quivering and panting in terror,I ignore him and let him get on with it,but its awful to see him like it,can I do anything for him?

Funny that - my dog used to bark and get edgy when she saw one floating across the valley.  There aren't many here though, so I can't say a lot.
