My wife has just had a talk with her sister regarding my son. His right foot slightly goes inwards and he HAD a dairy allergy from 8 weeks up until he was around 16 months. She said that both of these are associated with "Autism". I personally think it's a load of rubbish. Is this a load of rubbish as i need to prove a point, any similar cases?????? Please help!!!!

Hi Paul........just from personal experience and with that I mean have given birth myself, before me and my daughter where allowed to leave the hospital a doctor came around the ward and did tests on my child..when I say tests I mean the tests with the legs, they pull the knees up and rotate the hips...Paul I think if there had have been a problem with your son the doctors would have picked up on it. But if you are worried go and visit you GP........and put your mind at rest.

nothing like that here... but I'm not a doctor

I know 2 people whose child had an inturned foot (both not autistic) They were told to turn it gently (believed to be because of the way the baby had laid in the womb) My 5 year old has a friend with 2 inturned feet, needs special temporary shoes but otherwise exactly the same as everyone else. My 13 & 14 year old spent their early years intolerant to cows milk (as did some nephews, tends to be' familiar' ) causing colic, mild excema, nasal drip. A pediatrician I met through work ( not the need of my kids needing to see one) was so impressed that I went on a cow's milk free diet whilst breastfeeding, as he had done loads of research about how a humans young stomach is not developed enough to digest diary products., causes all sorts of problems.I have to say they have been on normal diets since aged 2 years (very mild excema wasn't worth restricting the diet) Autism is more about a persons connection to the world and the people in it. However I would take advice on the foot, cos there may be corrective exercises needed. In a nut shell I know three kids with the foot problem who arn't autistic, I know loads of kids with dairy intolerance who arn't autistic either. I also know lot's of autistic kids who have normal feet and arn't dairy intolerant.
I know 2 autistic kids - one severely-the other with Aspergers and I can honestly say from a laypersons point of view they didnt have the tendencies you describe. But as usual I also would recommend you visit your GP although I think this would have been picked up by your Health Visitor or by further Clinic appointments.
Paul, you say "my son" is it your wife's son too?
does your wife have any other reason to think that your son is autistic? Why do you need to prove a point?

Sorry, he is our son. And secondly, i need to prove a point because i dont think he has got autism and i just think his foot needs correcting
You did sound abit frantic when you posted. Has your wife got any other reason for thinking that he is autistic? Its not clear how old your son is now, do you still see the health visitor. It sounds like you need some kind of medical advice to put both your minds at rest.

well, he is 2 in october, my wife thinks that he is because, his vocabulary is alot les than his older sister when she was this age, his female cousin who is only 4 months older is capable of doing/ recognising and saying alot more. He is laid back and qiuet intimedated by new situations and a big crowd with new people.

well but girls, as I understand it, do develop verbal skills earler and all children are different. It does sound like your wife is worried though.
doen't sound like autism, but what have you got to lose by having tests done? At the very least it will set your wife's mind at rest; she needs support too.
