I hope someone can help please
If I pay Four pounds and Seventy-four pence sterling for an item what wouldbe
the cost in Euros OR if the items were reversed four euros and 47cents.(Irish) what
would the cost be in sterling.
Sorry if this sounds a stupid question but I do NOT know how to calculate that.
Perhaps this is the wrong site, please advise.

It all depends on the rate of exchange at any one given time. Basically you need to multiply your chosen currency by the rate of exchange of the other.
I think the € is worth about 84p. To convert from £ to € multiply by 84 and then divide by 100
£4.74 is €5.92
mutliply the price in sterling by the exchange rate euros to the pound.
£4.74 X 1.22 =E 5.78
or divide the price in euros by the exchange rate euros to the pound
E4.47 / 1.22 = £3.66
or try this website

You mean multiply by 100 then divide by 84.

Thank you all for your help.
I am here in Northern Ireland and regularly go to the R.O.I.
but I just get the Euros in the GPO in Belfast, and once I go
across the border I don't check the exchange rate, a friend
asked me to get an item for them and then I could not tell them
the price (eejit that I am) but they are a friend so it didn't really
matter but it did get me thinking that I should try and work it the
rate.

Thanking you all
